Time-That-Was of the Patriarchs

-1st Generation

ABRAHAM had split with his nephew, Lot, at Bethel. Lot had chosen to live east near Sodom on the well-watered plain of the Jordan, and Abraham then went south to Hebron, staying on the Ridge Road, west of Lot. Lot was captured in the War of the Kings, but was rescued by Abraham. Lot went back to living in Sodom. Abraham had three visitors; one was the LORD, and two were angels, all appearing as men. Abraham, being God’s friend, was told that Sodom was marked for destruction.

* Hebron

 The two angels [as men] were taken in by Lot into his house, telling them that it was not safe to be on the streets of Sodom.

***”Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom–both young and old–surrounded the house. They called to Lot, ‘Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them [men] out to us so that we [men] can have sex with them’. Lot…said…‘No…Don’t do this wicked thing’ [men having sex with men] (Genesis 19:4-7 NIV).”***

The two angels took the hands of Lot, his wife, and his two daughters out of the city [God delivers the righteous], and burning brimstone began to fall upon the city and continued until the whole area was totally destroyed, along with all the vile perversions of the Sodomites.

[Lot had chosen this area to live because it was like the Garden of Eden

before it’s destruction (Genesis 13:10 NIV).

Today, clumps of brimstone may be found and ignited with a flame.]
