Jericho Sites

Photo taken at Jericho, Summer 2013.) Jericho is said in the Bible to be the City of Palms (Deut. 34: 3 NIV); underground springs make it an oasis. Jericho is about 5 miles west of the Bethabara Site on the Jordan River, where Joshua crossed into the Promised Land and is the first town Joshua conquered. Later, Elisha threw salt into the water at Jericho and the water became good. Even later, Jesus would be baptized by John at Bethabara and walk here to Jericho to go up to the Mount of Temptation.

Gilead on the East Bank & Jericho on the West Bank, are parts of the covenant-land:***"Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, across from Jericho. There the LORD showed him the whole land - from Gilead [“East Bank”of the Jordan] to Dan [northern Israel]...the Negev [southern Israel] and the whole region from the Valley of Jericho, the City of Palms [“West Bank” of the Jordan], as far as Zoar. Then the LORD said to him, 'This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob [Israel] when I said, I will give it to your descendants’...(Deut. 34:1-4 NIV)."***
