FOLLOW THE FOOTSTEPS OF MOSES  IN MOAB

***"Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, across from Jericho. There the LORD showed him the whole land - from Gilead [East Bank] to Dan...the Negev and the whole region from the Valley of Jericho, the City of Palms, [West Bank] as far as Zoar. Then the LORD said to him, 'This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, I will give it to your descendants [Israel]...(Deut. 34:1-4 NIV)."***

What Happened Here - MOAB:

Time-That-Was of the Patriarchs

- 3rd Generation

MOAB, the incestuous son of Lot, settled this area named after him.

Time-That-Was of the Exodus

BALAAM, a hired prophet, was warned by a talking donkey to not curse Israel;

[An excavated stone from this area with his name on it is in the Amman Museum.]

Balak, the king of Moab, had to let Moses & Israel through.

MOSES defeated the Amorite king & continued on the King's Highway (Nu.21:22). He gave land grants to Manasseh, Gad, & Reuben, tribes of Israel, that included the entire "East Bank" of the Jordan River and the northern half of the "East Bank" of the Dead Sea.

He finished writing the Torah [1st 5 books of the Bible] and told the priests to keep it next to the Ark of the Covenant.

He then went up Mt. Nebo to look into the Promised Land, died, and was buried in a valley.

JOSHUA, leading Israel, crossed the Jordan River into the Promised Land with the Ark; the water was parted for Joshua as it had been for Moses at the Red Sea [Site: Bethabara].

Time-That-Was of the Judges

RUTH, the Moabite, born into the pagan culture of this area, converted to the God of Israel, journeyed from here to Bethlehem with Naomi, married Boaz, & became the great-grandmother of David, thereby continuing the royal lineage of the Messiah.

Time-That-Was of the United Kingdom

KING DAVID made war with Rabbah [now Amman, Jordan], because his messengers were embarrassed by the King of Ammon. The king of Ammon hired warriors from Assyria to prepare for a response from David. They camped here at Madaba in Moab, but ran away.

Time-That-Was of the Two Kingdoms Divided [Kings & Prophets]

ELIJAH was taken up in a heavenly chariot on the east bank of the Jordan River near Joshua's crossing (Bethabara).

Time-That-Was of the 1st Temple Destruction & Exile

Some believe

JEREMIAH, knowing by revelation that Babylon would destroy the 1st Temple, hid the Ark of the Covenant at Mt. Nebo; modern-day searches of Mt. Nebo have not found it.

Time-That-Was of the 1st Coming

JESUS was baptized by John near Joshua's crossing at Bethany Beyond Jordan (Bethabara).

Time-That-Was of Modern History

BYZANTINES made a mosaic map of the Holy Lands, called the Madaba Map [because it is located in Madaba, Jordan]. It is part of the floor of a modern church that was built over it and can still be seen there to this day. Their mosaic map shows Jerusalem without a Temple Mt., although it would have been there very "imposingly" in their time, even though it was without a Temple. However, the map does show their red-roofed churches in Jerusalem. This may be indicative of the surfacing of the heresy, called Replacement Theology, that began anti-semitic behavior in the visible church, despising the Jewish roots of Christianity, although they professed a belief in the observant Jew, Yeshua [Jesus] and a belief in a Bible written mostly, if not altogether, by Jews. Further involvement in the Scriptures would have shown them that, when He returns and the will of the LORD is finally being done on the earth, He will build a Temple [the 4th] and require all nations [not just Jews] to come up to Jerusalem to observe the Feast of Tabernacles, and if they do not, there will be a curse on that nation. Even though the LORD will have fulfilled the prophecy of the Feast of Tabernacles, the shadow pictures of that Feast and of the Temple will still be used as "teaching aids" to school the new generations born during the Millennium.

***(I,M) Deut. 29:10-15 "Ye stand this day all of you before the Lord your God...That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the Lord thy God, and into His oath which the Lord thy God maketh with thee this day: That He may establish thee today for A PEOPLE UNTO HIMSELF...as He hath sworn...to Abraham, Issac, and to Jacob...Neither [not only] with you do I make this covenant and this oath...But...also with him that is not here with us this day..."***
